The University
Foundation Programme is a bridging
year specially designed for students
seeking entry to universities abroad.
It is a one year full-time course and
of a similar standard to 'A' levels.
It provides students with a wide range
of general study skills as well as
specific knowledge of subjects related
to the degree they wish to follow in
the future. Students have also found
it to be a more appropriate and a faster
route than 'A' levels.
Objective:
To broaden the students knowledge,
enrich their personal development and
help them to reach the standard required
for a successful undergraduate entry
to their chosen University. UFP also
prepares them for the rigours of degree
courses
.
Advantages:
- Development of academic and practical
skills relevant to future degree course.
- Development of study and communication skills.
- Knowledge and practical experience of IT in a separate module
- Continuous assessment with tests
at the end of each phase and no build-up
of examination pressure at the end
of the year (which is the case of 'A' levels)
- Two admission dates within the
same academic year - September and January - both
of which enable students to enter
university the following October
- A structure similar to the first year of a four-year university degree course.
- Has a high success rate
- Guarantees
entry to a wide range of universities overseas including the ones the college
is affiliated with.
- Cost saving.
Course Structure:
The course offers a range of subjects
made up of modules. Students study five
modules, of which two are Minor
modules, while the remaining three are
Major modules, relevant to the students
future degree programme.
Minor Modules:
- INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY - Students
learn to use some applications like:
Basic Office Automation, Web Design and some Programming Languages.
- COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS - Students
develop study skills and oral communication
skills.
These
two are compulsory for all students.
They equip the student with the essential
numeric and analytic skills, and introduce
the use of computers which is becoming
part of every university course. The
communication Skills module prepares
the students for the demands of a degree
course especially in the area of research,
report writing and presentation.

Term Structure:
The College has two admission dates - September and January, and a three-term academic year structure. Each term runs for ten weeks, and is structured to allow enough time for students to complete their course for University entry.
Method of Assessment:
The course is continuously assessed by regular tests and set project
work, which makes a percentage of the total marks available and an
end of year examination makes up the remaining marks. The overall
allocation of marks between continuous assessment and final examinations
vary for individual modules depending on the nature of the subject.
This method of continuous assessment encourages students to work
hard and maintain a steady workload throughout the duration of
the course. |
This is a two year full-time course,
with admissions both in September and
January. However there is an option
for the student to do the first year
of the course (AS) in Bridge House
College , Nigeria and proceed to the
UK to continue and complete the second
year (A2 ) in our partner
College ( Brooke House College ) in the UK . A one
year intensive programme is also available
for students that are re-taking the
examination.
The management of the transition from 'O'
levels to 'A' levels is of crucial
importance and hence there is the need
for the students to develop effective
study techniques that will allow them
to acquire a much greater depth of
understanding. Our programme therefore
includes study skill courses - including
time management and revision technique
seminars.
The programme on expiration will be
assessed by an examination conducted
by the University of Cambridge Examining
Board , and is moderated by the British
Council.
All students are required to select
three subjects relevant to their intended
degree course. The following are the
subjects available:
